Society of Light and Lighting (SLL)
The Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) welcomes all who are interested in any aspect of light, lighting, and its applications.
With over 3300 members globally, the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) is recognised as an authority on lighting and welcomes all who are interested in any aspect of the world of light, lighting, and its design or application. Lighting designers, consulting engineers, researchers, students, academics, manufacturers, sales staff and many more all contribute to and are members of the SLL.
The SLL recognises the expertise of the lighting community in tackling the challenges which face us all, considering the climate emergency, global political uncertainty, rapid technological change, significant societal shifts, and skills shortages.
SLL is a learned Society and promotes education and knowledge transfer in a variety of ways, including seminars and webinars, and an events programme that runs all year round. As part of this there are a number of publications and guidance notes available for free (pdf) or at reduced cost to our members as part of their CIBSE membership.

Brand new Lighting Guide 4: Sports Lighting now available
The Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) has launched the latest revision of Lighting Guide LG4: Sports Lighting. There have been considerable developments since the previous edition, published in 2006, with an addendum in 2015, in both technologies and emerging sports. This guide is based only on the use of light-emitting diode (LED) light sources.

Bridging the gap between the science and art of lighting, the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) welcomes Helen Loomes as new president. Helen delivered her presidential address and laid out plans for the year ahead at yesterdays, SLL AGM, held at the RIBA on 24 May 2023.

SLL & CIBSE launch Light2Perform, showcasing the lighting professionals and technology at the heart of the net zero agenda
The first Light2Perform will take place as part of this year’s CIBSE Build2Perform Live, CIBSE’s flagship event, on 5 - 6 December 2023 at Excel, London.
Lighting for Offices
The Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) has published a new edition of Lighting Guide 7: Lighting for Offices.
The office environment has changed considerably in recent years. Tablet and smartphone use continue to free people from their desks and present challenges to lighting designers. It is likely that people will spend some time in offices but that their working week may see them work from various locations, including their homes. As such, this revision of Lighting Guide 7 now includes advice on lighting for a home office.
